Timetable and Long Throws Change for Premiership Match at Birmingham

BRITISH ATHLETICS LEAGUE
LONG THROWS AT THE PREMIERSHIP MATCH AT BIRMINGHAM ON 9th JUNE 2012
The Premiership match at Birmingham on 9th June is a joint fixture with the UKWL. The Alexander Stadium no longer has an outside throwing area suitable for a match of this quality so all the throws have to take place within the arena. If BAL adopt the usual practice of 3 throws + 3 extra throws for the best eight, it is estimated that the match would last a further two hours. After consultation with the UKWL and the promoting club BAL’s Finance & General Purposes Committee accordingly resolved that for this meeting only and because of the absence of a suitable outside throwing circle at the venue, the long throws would be on the basis of four trials for all competitors without a cut. The rest of the timetable would be adjusted accordingly.
BAL wish to emphasize that this decision is for this match only and for all other BAL matches this season the usual practice of 3 throws + 3 extra throws for the best eight will apply.
The pressure on the calendar of the Olympics meant that there was no alternative to this date and venue for this joint meeting and after this venue had been chosen it became evident much later that the outside circle was not suitable for a meeting of this standard.
